Fullerenes are carbon based materials and occur as a closed-type spherical or spheroidal molecule C60, C70, C76, C84, where all carbon atoms are situated at the vertices of regular hexagons and pentagons, covering its surface. C60 fullerenes are also known as Buckminsterfullerene or buckyballs. Similar to other allotropes of carbon such as diamond and graphite, fullerenes too exhibit hardness.
